"Quiet down before God." Psalm 37:7
This was an iffy tag for me: iffy because I'm not sure how long it'll last at its location, iffy because it's my first tag in a pretty obvious place, and iffy because it's a public place too.
On our road trip home after Thanksgiving, we stopped at a gas station right outside of Louisville, Kentucky. I am not really sure exactly where we stopped, other than it was around mile 13 on I-64 heading west. Here's an extremely blurry photo of the gas station as we drove away:
Wanna know where I left my tag? Ha!
And here's the sign that gives me reason to believe the tag may only last a short time in its location:
If the staff clean the restrooms really well and really often, I'm pretty sure they'll remove the tag soon.

2 Corinthians 12:9
"My grace is sufficient for you." 2 Corinthians 12:9
My family and I are on a LONG drive for Thanksgiving, and I made plans to tag some items while we are gone.
Our first stop was at my sister's house in North Carolina. While everyone was getting ready for church and loading the car, I snuck over to a tree near my sister's driveway and placed a tag on it.
I'm not sure if my sister saw me do this. The cat is definitely out of the bag with my husband, though. He watched me do this, shaking his head at me because he thinks this whole yarn bombing thing is crazy. Luckily, he's used to craziness and just lets me do my thing.
I chose this Scripture for my sister's tree as a blessing to her family, that they lean on God's grace and let it blanket them with goodness.

Isaiah 40:1
"Comfort my people." Isaiah 40:1
Ever since I read the Yarn Bombing book, I knew one of the places I wanted to tag was at my church. I wanted it to be inconspicuous so it didn't detract from the building's design elements. There's a basketball goal behind the church and I thought it would be a good place to tag. I measured it this past Saturday before we attended worship services, and worked on the tag last night.
I think the people most likely to see this crochet graffiti are the church staff members, who are the shepherds in charge of guiding the church goers. They do a fantastic job of spreading the Gospel and comforting God's people, so I chose this Scripture in hopes of inspiring them.
I made the tag a little too big, but thankfully I tied strings on different areas of it so I could tighten it a bit.
All three of the tags I've made so far have been too big for their intended spots. I guess I need to scale it down!

Deuteronomy 33:25
"Your strength will equal your days." Deuteronomy 33:25
This was the last of two tags today. I crocheted a cozy for one of the traffic cones in my church parking lot. I made it out of strips cut from Walmart shopping bags. Since it's lightweight, I hope the wind won't blow it off.
It's a little big for the cone, but I think it'll work. Maybe next time, I'll do it with orange yarn.

Ecclesiastes 9:10
I took my son to the park yesterday and brought along my crochet bag. I was going to work on a tag for a special location I've picked out, but decided to see if I could whip something up and leave it at the park before we left.
I took about 30 minutes and double crocheted my very first tag! I decided to tie it to this bush-tree near the edge of the playground, and my heart was pounding the entire time I tied it to the bush-tree. (I call it that because it's really a short tree or a very big bush.) It didn't take me more than 2 seconds to understand why the book Yarn Bombing recommends buttons or pre-threaded needles in order to fasten your tag to its location quickly.
Since I didn't arrive at the park planning to tag anything, I didn't bring a label for the tag with me. When we got home later, I made my first labels out of Shrinky Dinks. I decided to make these labels in the shape of a cross. Each label will have this blog address and a short verse of Scripture. This tag is labeled with Ecclesiastes 9:10, "Whatever you do, do well." I thought that was a fitting verse for my first tag!
I drove back to the park today and tied the label to the tag, then snapped a few pictures.
I consider this first tag a success!

Why Crosschet?
When I finished reading the book Yarn Bombing, I knew I wanted to try some bombing myself. I was intrigued by the artists in the book, and thought how much fun it would be to leave crochet surprises in random places.
Many of the artists in the book are incognito and use assumed names. I considered that for a bit, then decided it would be too hard to conceal my Yarn Bombing endeavors. I decided to start a blog dedicated to my Yarn Bombings, and thought about what I would most like my work to be aligned with.
Jesus was the first to come to mind. What if I could spread His love and tell His story by using the soft, cushiony chaos of Yarn Bombs? How could I mix the cross with crochet? And that's how the name of this blog was born: cross-chet or Crosschet.
I want to spread God's word in unexpected places. My plan is to attach His word to my art and hope that it inspires someone to trust His love a little more.
After all, God is soft and cushiony; unexpected order in the midst of chaos. He's my home. A soft place to land.

Yarn Bombing
It was a chance meeting, really. I happened to walk past a table at the library that had this book prominently displayed. I opened it and flipped through it, and immediately knew I needed to take the book home with me.
I took my time reading it these past few weeks and felt so drawn to the ideas in the book. I knew it would just be a matter of time before I yarn bombed for the first time myself. I'm inspired. Excited. And I even feel a little bit naughty. Ha!
Here are some of my favorite projects shown in the book:
Tree Cozy by Carol Hummel, photo found here
Early Frost by Janet Morton, photo found here
